Rolex’s first GMT-Master wristwatch was introduced in the 1950s at the start of the golden age of air travel, which is now recognised as a highly productive period in horology with many brands producing some of the most famous watches known today. The GMT-Master reference 6542 was released in 1954 as a 39mm diameter wristwatch made in cooperation with Pan American Airlines as a tool watch for pilots and travelers. It allowed the wearer to keep track of time both at home and locally.

By 1959, Rolex introduced the reference 1675 with the newly designed case at 39mm diameter, featuring crown guards and a metal bezel that replaced the fragile Bakelite bezel. The present example from 1964 stands out with its flawless and original vibrant black glossy dial with gilt printing, and is fitted with a 24 hours hand with small arrow tip. Combining great daily wearability and rarity, this is a magnificent specimen of an early reference 1675 and ever since one of Rolex most iconic models.
