In 1945 Rolex launched the Datejust to mark the company’s 40th anniversary. This model was the world’s first automatic wristwatch with a date indication. More exclusive versions in precious metals, were offered in much smaller quantity than the steel and two-tone examples.
The present 18 karat gold watch, built in limited numbers and scare on today’s market, is in excellent condition. The luminous sunburst pie-pan dial is flawless and has maintained a fantastic silvered colour with its applied baton indexes and matching baton hands. This Reference 1601, probably the most classic iteration, dates back to 1973 and features a classic 36mm Oyster case, a vibrant fluted bezel and a matching Jubilee bracelet.
